Nha Trang prepares for Sea Festival
|
| |
Petty merchants in Ben Thanh Market, shop owners on Dong Khoi and Nguyen Hue roads in HCM City, which are popular shopping destinations for domestic and foreign travellers, are all complaining about slow sales these days.

Nha Trang has been known for its blue sea, white sand, shining sunshine, luxurious villas and hotels and has been a famous destination for sea adventure tours. Moreover, there is an unique and busy Nha Trang with its sea festivals of deep cultural identity. All of these contributes to the beauty and attractiveness of the well-known sea tourism centre.
From 2003 to date, tourists to Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa have been familiar with a new tourism product which has been step by step fixed to be an attraction to tourists: the Sea Festival which is organised every two years.

From 2003 to date, tourists to Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa have been familiar with a new tourism product which has been step by step fixed to be an attraction to tourists: the Sea Festival which is organised every two years.
This year, the festival named “Nha Trang – a Destination” will be opened on June 6.
This is the fourth sea festival that has ever been organised. The festival is aimed at popularising the image of the people and land of Vietnam in general and Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa tourism in particular to international friends and tourists.
The festival lasts for seven days, featuring over 60 cultural, arts, sports and tourism programmes and activities, including a Cau Ngu festival (fish worshipping ceremony), a coracle race, a human chess contest, an exhibition of calligraphy, a kite flying festival, a sand sculpture contest, a sea fashion show, etc.
Several national records will be set at the festival including the biggest “Pho” (a rice noodle served with beef) bowl in Vietnam, largest folk orchestra in Vietnam, the biggest wifi café at the seaside and an exhibition of record embroidery works.
Other highlights include a street festival and art programme with the participation of foreign artists, an international book fair, a French film week and photo exhibition on the life of famous French writers, an exhibition of sea creatures, a national conference on urban planning, a beach football and volleyball tournament. |

During the festival, other environmental protection activities will also be held, including a waste collection day in Nha Trang, a painting competition on the environment, a conference on preservation of sea ecology.
Earlier, in May, several activities will also be held such as a musical exchange between cities to welcome the festival and a meeting of the national urban association.
According to Khanh Hoa Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Le Xuan Than, almost all of the budget for the festival comes from sponsors and enterprises.
For example, Vina Capital has contributed VND 2 billion for the firework show on the festival’s opening day which has been promised to be of a much larger-scale and more interesting.
A walking street on part of the Tran Phu street is carried out by XQ Vietnam Company. Tourists arrive in this walking street can also witness the work of female artisan who make traditional embroidery paintings.
Young designer Vo Hoang Da Uyen, in co-ordination with “Thong do” (Red Pine) group in Da Lat, will introduce a fashion collection Design 21 on the stage at the walking street.
According to Marketing Director of TransViet Travel Company Nguyen Tien Dat, the festival has attracted the attention of many tourists and travel companies, especially after the success of the last festival entitled “XQ-Sea Soul” in 2007.
Organisation of cultural, sports and tourism events has created opportunities for the tourism sector in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa to attract more tourists. However, it is more important that the locality pays attention to building a prestigious tourism brand through development programmes of sustainability, a healthy tourism environment and high-quality tourism products. |
