Hue Festival is the city's annual major event. Every June and over nine days, the city celebrates the culture, the court music and the ancient traditions of this historic city. A peaceful and humanitarian spirit governs this celebration that feeds on the Giao sacrifice ceremony of ceremony.
The festivals include a collection of festivals, rites and homages. Nam Giao Festival is a ceremony that takes participants from the Royal Palace to Nam Giao platform where heaven is worshipped with incense, parl and silk offerings and the pronunciation of ritual words. The event is accompanied by court music.
Another event is the Royal Palace Night featuring mandarins, eunuchs, imperial maidens, horses and elephants. It is a three-day event with film screenings, Vietnamese court music, Hue classical opera, art performances and food and drink. The event begins at 7 in the evening when hundreds of lanterns in the palace are lit and participants cross the bridge over perfume River each holding a lantern.
Other festivals held are Truyen Lo and VinhQuy Bai To ceremonies to honor ancestors when doctors return home after successful academic achievements.
Other art and cultural events take place during the festival. This year's edition included calligraphic performances by local and regional artists hosted by Hue's newest art gallery.
If next year you happen to be in the first week of June in Vietnam, don't miss Hue Festival.
